Manchester City made a statement in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie against Bayern Munich on Tuesday, 11, 2023, as they thrashed the 10-time European champions 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium.
Rodri opened the scoring for City with a stunning strike from outside the box in the first half before Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland added two more goals to put Pep Guardiola’s side in control of the tie.
Haaland was particularly impressive, as his goal saw him reach 45 goals for the season, making him the first player ever to score that many goals across all competitions in a single season. The Norwegian forward also had an assist to his name on the night, setting up Silva’s goal with an inch-perfect pass.
The result puts Manchester City in a commanding position heading into next week’s second leg at Allianz Arena. Bayern Munich will need to produce something special to turn things around and progress to the semi-finals of Europe’s premier club competition.
